Telford & Wrekin Partnership

Local Area Agreement

The Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a three year agreement, that sets out the priorities for a local area. The agreement is made between Central Government, represented by Government Office West Midlands (GOWM), the lead local authority, (Telford & Wrekin Council) and other key partners in the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).

The LAA simplifies some central funding, helps to join up public services more effectively and allows greater flexibility for local solutions to local circumstances.

The LAA will assist in 'narrowing the gap' between the more deprived and prosperous communities and assist in the long-term aim to 'transform Telford'.

The Local Government White Paper 'Strong and Prosperous Communities' (2007) set out different arrangements for the second round of LAAs.

The new arrangements are based on a stronger role for local authorities to lead their communities and shape their areas. The indicators that make up LAA2 have to be chosen from the 198 National Indicator Set that has been produced by Government, targets for the indicators are then agreed by GOWM and the local authority.

The new Local Area Agreement 2 will run from 2008-2011.
