What are Your Community Matters Events?
Your Community Matters Events are aimed at all members of the community living or working in the Borough of Telford and Wrekin. They are an opportunity to discuss local services with the people who are responsible for delivery.
The Events will take place five times a year, one in each of the five Community Clusters, and directly involve a range of service providers, including key Telford and Wrekin Council portfolios, Telford Police/West Mercia Police Authority, Telford and Wrekin Primary Care Trust, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and Telford and Wrekin Council for Voluntary Services. Parish Councils will also be involved.
The first event, covering the South Telford Cluster, is on 8th October 2008 at the Park Lane Centre in Woodside – doors open at 5.30. Specific details of this event will be posted on this site closer the time.
Each event will have two parts. Firstly a market place where for about 1hr 30 minutes members of the community can meet with Council and partner representatives and discuss issues that are important to them. This will be followed by a formal presentation and discussion forum providing opportunities for key messages to be shared and for questions and discussion from the floor.
The Events will be chaired by an independent chair person appointed on a year on year basis by Telford and Wrekin’s Local Strategic Partnership Agenda Group. This post is currently being advertised. See the job advertisement in the PDF below:

Background to the events
These events are based on work originally done by the police. For a number of years up to this point the cornerstone of Police consultation has been Police and Community Consultation Groups (PCCG).
Often of course the solution to concerns raised at these meetings did not sit simply with the police, or in fact any single agency. Problems relating to speeding traffic, antisocial behaviour and safe, clean and well lit streets need collaborative ‘multi agency’ and community based activity to resolve them. And so, after dialogue with service providers across the area and with Telford and Wrekin Council for Voluntary Services, a new format has been agreed.
It is important to note that ‘PACT’ meetings - which are more frequent and have a very local policing focus, will still go ahead.
Retaining the value of specific consideration of policing issues, ‘Policing Matters’ will be included as a prominent standing agenda item, where operational policing matters will be explored.
Individual service providers will have the opportunity and a clear platform, both on the main agenda and in the networking session, to share information and enter into an open dialogue about their work, priorities and use of resources.
